About Pulham

The pub is found in the North Dorset village of Pulham, part of the Lydden Vale which is in turn part of the Blackmore Vale.

Nearby villages include Holwell, Kings Stag, Hazelbury Bryan, Duntish and Buckland Newton; the nearest towns are Sherborne, Sturminster Newton and Dorchester.

The village was first recorded as two parts (East and West) in the Domesday book under the name of Poleham (4½ hides less 4 acres). The name subsequently changed to Puleham and then Pullam, finally becoming Pulham in 1244. In recent times both parts have merged into a whole.

The church (of Thomas à Becket) dates from the 1400s and is mainly Tudor in design, although it was restored in the late 1800s to give a more Gothic style. The font dates back to Norman times.
